About

Organized by guest curators from the “Gallery Practices” class, “INSIDE/OUT” examines architecture in London, Ontario during the Mid-Century Modern period (late 1940s-mid 1960s).

This timely exhibition coincides with the huge resurgence of Mid-Century Modern design and architecture currently sweeping North America. The student curators have critically examined contemporary trends within this historical time frame while acknowledging the socio-political atmosphere and nostalgic tendency to romanticize the post-war period.

The exhibition provides insight into local architecture that includes public buildings, domestic homes, and businesses designed by well-known Canadian architects such as Philip Carter Johnson, Merrill Baker, Charles Gillan, Forsey Page and Harland Steele, among others.

A full colour illustrated catalogue featuring essays by the students will be launched at the opening reception.
